expects these files to appear in all-uppercase, but some of them are in lowercase or mixed case in the archive; you need to rename some of the files to change their case. Also, these files are scattered about in the Windows and WinNTsubdirectories. In my experience, this option works well for Windows NT/200x/XP, but Windows 9x/Me tends to complain about a missing.INF file when installing the drivers installed in this way. If you run into this problem, you may need to install Windows 9x/Me drivers another way. The -aparameter tells the program to add drivers for all available CUPS printers.
For camera driver example, to see the secondary printer in the Devices and Settings window, right-click the physical printer and you’ll see options for each installed printer device. The installation wizard will walk you through the rest of the installation process.

But knowing where to look can be confusing. You may be having trouble finding the link to download drivers for your new printer, but HP and other manufacturers rarely leave customers high and dry. It’d be bad business not to properly support new products, even if they’re new-in-box units of an older model. If you’re missing your printer drivers, don’t despair – there’s more than one way to skin this cat.
Enter the path to the driver files or browse to them. The system will present a list of printers similar to that shown in Figure 4-3. Right-click the printer you want to install and select Properties from the resulting pop-up menu. If no driver is installed, Windows asks if you want to install one.
How do I know if my printer driver is installed?
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners . On the right, under Related Settings, select Print server properties. On the Drivers tab, see if your printer listed. If it is, you’re all set.
Wait for the drivers to install and then click Finish. The printer should now be displayed on the Devices and Printers menu. Now open AutoCAD or the vertical being used and bring up the plotting menu. The printer should be seen now on the drop down list when choosing available printers. You can still see the alternate printers from the normal printer configuration window, if you like.
Do you need to install printer drivers?
In Windows you can, in fact, install and use most printers using a built-in driver, even if it’s not the "right" driver. You would be astounded at how many printers will work just fine with the hp-laserjet-4 driver for instance. If your OS or software speaks a printer’s language, it doesn’t need a driver.
If you simply can’t find the correct driver for a non-Windows system, you could also try Gutenprint. This package of drivers should get you where you need to go, providing support for thousands of inkjet and laser printers for MacOS and Linux operating systems.
If a vendor doesn’t want to save its printer driver files under the \spool folder because of compatibility reason they are packaging its driver files into executables. This is the only way to prevent the copy of files into the spool folder. Packaging a printer driver into an executable file gives the hardware vendor also the option and freedom to save the driver files outside the spool folder.
